5 Effective Tips to Study the Bible for the Easily Distracted Girl.

Whew, let's talk about it!

Have you ever just woken up and decided “I'm reading my Bible from Genesis to Revelation”?

You get your journal, highlighters, and pen ready because you just know that you're about to get some good studying in. You get through Genesis 1. Whew, exciting right? Then comes the end of chapter two and your eyes start to get heavy with sleep or your Facebook notification starts going off and you get ….eh slightly sidetracked. We have all been there. That’s Fine!

Here are some simple tips that I have tested and they have helped my studying time go a lot smoother

1.Study in Bite-size Chunks- ( I admire you folks who can go for hours of bible study)

But for the rest of us!! Get your timer ready and set it for 15 minutes. For the entire 15 minutes, you get in your word and you don’t move on to anything else until the timer rings! Take a 5-minute break and then jump back in for 15 more minutes. Use your 5 minutes of rest to let your mind do its thing, jot down a few notes or even grab a quick snack!

2. Read in a translation that is easy for you to understand

My favorite bible app is  https://www.bible.com/app . You can view the bible in many different translations if you just can't get past the thee’s and thus. Study your bible in what translation is best for you it still counts!

My favorite translations:

  1. KJV

  2. ASV

  3. Message

  4. Amp (Amplified)

3. Find a small group

It's nothing like accountability! Having other like minded individuals that are just as determined as you are to learn and study the word helps tremendously. Whether online or in-person finding and committing to a small group is beneficial for those that are easily distracted! Go online and search virtual small groups in your area. IG or Facebook are also good places to start. (Later this year I will be reintroducing my small group options so stay tuned if you're interested.)

4.Invest in a pretty journal

Ok, this may not be for everyone, But a pretty notebook and a GOOD pen has me feeling like I can conquer the world!! Take interest in your journal during study time and fill it with scriptures that stand out to you (don’t forget to date it). Take note of words that come to you or anything downloaded in your spirit during your quiet time!

5. Make it a HABIT!

That app that I recommended in tip #2 offers dozens of free devotionals and plans. It notifies you every day at the time of your choosing when its time to read. You can also add friends to the app and share your success in completing the plan! Or challenge yourself to read 5 minutes a day of your favorite faith-based book. My current read is Without Rival by Lisa Bevere. Challenge yourself to write about what you read and follow up with prayer. Do that every day! If you can commit to 5 –10 minutes a day for 30 days surely adding 10 more minutes would be a breeze!

I hope you enjoyed it! There are many many more study tips that you can try but these are by far my favorite!!
